Since summer is a time when diseases most easily spread. The Dragon Boat Festival began as an occasion for dispelling the evil and pestilence, promoting good health and seeking peace in one's life. The festival was later enriched by the legend of patriotic poet Chu Yuan who drowned himself in the Milo River on the same day. As people were busy retrieving his body from the water, the incident finally became the custom of dragon boat races.
